The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority (VCEDA) is a regional economic development organization created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1988 to diversify the economy and to help add jobs to the seven-county, one city coalfield region of Virginia. The VCEDA region includes the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise, Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell and the City of Norton. Financed by coal and natural gas taxes, VCEDA manages various funding programs for economic development projects in the coalfield region and also markets the area as Southwest Virginia’s e-Region as an excellent place for operating a business and enjoying an incomparable quality of life. Southwest Virginia’s e-Region focuses on electronic information technology, energy, education, emerging technologies and entrepreneurs.
